Aureliano y Santos
Select Artist

Aureliano and Santos live in the ancient Inca capital city of Cusco high in the Peruvian Andes. The traditional music of the area uses mainly the pan pipes (a row of bamboo tubes lashed together and blown over like a milk bottle), the flute, the Charango (a tiny 8 stringed guitar made out of an armadillo shell), and a normal guitar and drum. I met them performing out on the street to tourists with their flute player. They played amazingly well and so I asked them to do a session. We only had less than 24 hours because I was due to leave Cusco the following day so I joined them at the "Inka Grill" restaurant where they were playing that evening and set up my gear. You don't need to listen to carefully to hear the sound of the diners chatting over their food in the background.

Aureliano and Santos, two very friendly and decent chaps, seemed to be very happy when I gave them the CD of these recordings. It turned out that Aureliano is also a sound engineer. It was fantastic to meet a Peruvian who did the same job as me.
